Modern 'Nonviolence', an Irony

Modern Nonviolence, an Irony
Long ago, Mahatma Gandhi
introduced the notion of ahimsa or non-violence to the Indian society,
to nurture peace and goodwill in all human minds. But don't you think that it
is confined to books alone, instead of being activated in today's practical
world? Yes, it has become a farce in the 21st century. The holy term
is being degraded day after day. Is this our civilisation?
Some months ago, a horrifying
road-accident at Uttarpara startled me, just as and when, the gory sight was
visible. Kalyan Uncle and Ranu Auntie were waiting for the Salt Lake bound bus
to come. Abruptly, a motor-bike collided against a truck. Consequently, the
rider broke his skull, as if it was a pool of blood. Mom soothed me,
"Close your eyes now. Don't watch it that makes you feel sick." Most of the people just clicked their tongues
and passed by.
Doesn't this occurrence make all
wonder that we, the so called human beings have turned brutal by nature?
Each day, while travelling by the
local train, we have to struggle with jostles, with shouts and sometimes with
abusive languages. Where does the understanding among people lie in this case?
Doesn't it seem that our education becomes futile and fruitless, when we preach
others to behave lovingly and simultaneously commit the same offences
ourselves?
Some days before, Daddy explained
his harrowing experiences found while heading to his office, "Honestly, I
don't want to undergo these things regularly, but I have to for the sake of the
family."
Do men really convey their
heartiest regards to "the Father of Nation" at all now-a-days? No,
because it has become just a mundane exhibition and an artificiality in the
modern era to hide behind the masks and to stab the brothers and sisters from
the back most inhumanly.
It has become an irony to the
sanctimonious word ahimsa, not just because we misuse its meaning in our
daily lives but even because our conscience is probably fading away gradually.
If there were a little compassion among people, a bit of cordiality and love in mankind, this world would have felt to be a better place, the Paradise or the heaven on earth.
